I just yesterday became aware of TED am amazed at the scope of what is available through its website. I was an educator for 49 years and worked at all levels, elem. teacher, principal supt. university graduate level instructor, and student teacher supervisor. I am so excited to listen to Ted Robinsons ideas about what is done to kids that kills creativity because as a kid I hated school and never dreamed that I would ever in my wildest imagination become an educator!! When I did I spent the entire career trying to make it different. You must teach kids ( and adults ) to question and reason and think and want to learn their entire lives!!! What happened in Germany under Hitler is an example of blindly following a leader without daring to queation.

My wish for City 2.0 is for some neighborhoods that devote themselves to having tiny carbon footprints.
Tiny housing units, so less energy was needed and less was wasted. They could be so much more affordable for young
Families. They need to include:
Nearby places for community youth to be active and another quieter place so they can challenge their minds.
Now:
Spread these kinds of resources evenly throughout these neighborhoods and see what Community 2.0 looks like.

I have been working on this same idea for years. It is funny now that various universities offer degree in sustainability and it has become more main stream to even think of it. We are in process of designing a complete development that encompases self reliance and state of the art power distribution and presevation along with food production year around in a near 100% safe shelter system for inclimate weather. We will eventually open residency in the Tennazona development for up to 250 people on a year round basis. We will keep this website in our reference material to check back on.

Best Regards,

Kevin Dittler

Amy (and Chris): Please tell us more about HOW everyone in the TED community (or communities) can embrace this invitation for "radical collaboration" around "building sustainable, vibrant, working cities." What I mostly like about it that it is basically a "Learning Project." Should we call it "Learning Cities" instead of Cities2.0 ... Learning Cities are designed to support collaborations among multi-aged and multi-dsciplined multi-lingual populations, who are learninhg-all-the-time connected citizens... Congratulations on a brilliant IDEA! Once again: You Rock.

The ocean is the unknown and to date human colonization has not considered the greatest part of the earth's surface. In the future this must change as land mass becomes ever more fragile.

The rains came: I am writing this at a time of teeming rain, brought by hurricane, Irene. I am living near the Sagamore Bridge on Cape Cod, and since I am listening to most wonderful, Karen Armstrong, I want to say that this story, continues, meaning a collective story I honestly believe is entirely about compassion. Saga More... the story continues, a story about bridges. Cape Cod, so close in name to, God. As to rain, I hear the TEAM that is aurally identical to teem, and as for rain, I hear reign.

I am following a deeply language-based story. Sometimes I find myself totally alone in discussing words, especially the power and potential of the letters, as in, In the Beginning WAS the Word. I think there are ways of seeing this, routes, to our roots, that will bring us all home, and that within the letters is a universe, yet mostly unplumbed, that I am plumbing.

This is NOT a duplicate comment.

Why is it we can so constantly do what we do with words? I asked this question, and when I pose it, people turn away, as if it were a question they are not allowed to ask. And so I am going aloud with this, because there is a story I need to tell, a story that sends me to my knees, a story about how we are all of us more connected to each other than we ever thought possible.
